The Ship -Type and Paint Job
I initially saw the main ship to be a Beowulf as it is iconic Traveller, & I think the Traveller-ness needs to be reinforced on to the strip at least initially (lots of instantly recognizable elements, etc.) Open to suggestions though.
I have done an initial paint job which I am not happy with so this will change, probably more of a solid colour & a stripe of some type, any preferences or ideas here?

So far, the white with limited red is suggestive of a Hospital type ship.
What about a Lancaster Bomber type scheme? Black underside with Bronze/Gunmetal Upper hull areas Then with some red stripe sort of livery or markings? Numbers?

Nice idea, I'll dig out a few references (my dad flew in Lancasters so there's a bit of a nice family connection there too!)

Of course I do not suggest a camoflauge-type upper surface, but more the specific black underside be the key. the trick is making it black but visible against space...

I may upload a few rough test schemes to gauge opinion, Here is the first: half Lancaster Bomber & half Starsky's Torino, I quite like it. I need to add the finer details and a bit of lettering and signage, also I need to wear down the paintwork, etc. but this should give you an idea

Not bad. I wonder if I would've seen the Torino influence if you hadn't mentioned it? Probably not in my current cold/flu clouded semi-conscious state

Needs a bit more work but this is the current thoughts on general ship livery & landing gear, I am also going to change a few bits so they match in with Dan's deckplans.

Don't worry they are a great set of deckplans & I like to get it all consistant (you know what the citizens can be like )far-trader wrote:Sorry for moving the target (changing the deckplans) on you.

No comparison to your render but I was curious to see how close and decent just filling quick colors would be on my simple drawings. Not bad given the limits of basic Paint and it's pallet. But that's due more to you choosing an simple graphic design than any skill on my part
Of course now it reminds me I still need to do the turrets, and fore/aft profiles.

If it's cheap and easy camo you want...
I was always a fan of the Canadian AF's painting of a false cockpit on the bottom of the fuselage of their F/A-18s. The Idea being that in the heat of combat, the image of the false cockpit is enough to change the shot deflection of the opponent while the stick in the Eighteen excutes what is at first a confusing turn and swinging back in for the kill.
I saw some color CAP footage of them and it does work and I knew what to look for.
Just an other thought.
